Ceramic Coating Cost in Durban, What You Pay For

Our ceramic coating starts at R6,000 for a standard car and is about R8,000 for a larger car, with 2 years of protection.

Ceramic coating in Durban starts at R6,000 for a standard car with Auto Sleek Detailing. A larger vehicle such as an SUV, Range Rover or Porsche is about R8,000. That price covers careful washing, chemical and clay decontamination, preparation where needed, and protection applied by hand to the paint and wheels. The coating provides 2 years of protection. Heavy paint correction is quoted separately.

Those numbers answer the first question, but price alone does not tell you whether a quote is sensible. Two cars of the same model can need very different preparation. One may be new and clean. The other may carry years of wash marks, bonded contamination and buffer trails. The coating goes on last, so the work before it matters.

What changes the ceramic coating price in Durban?

The main price factors are vehicle size, paint condition and the amount of correction needed before coating. The product is only one part of the job. Preparation takes time, and a careful installer will not hide poor paint under a protective layer.

Vehicle size

A larger vehicle has more paint and wheel area to clean, decontaminate and coat. It also takes longer to move around safely. That is why our standard-car price starts at R6,000 while a larger car is about R8,000.

The larger tier includes vehicles such as SUVs, Range Rovers and Porsches. It is a practical category, not a judgement about the badge. The final quote still depends on the actual car and its condition.

Paint condition

Ceramic coating adds protection and gloss, but it does not remove swirl marks by itself. If the paint is already in good condition, the preparation can remain focused on washing, decontamination and any light polishing the finish needs. If direct sun reveals heavy swirls, scratches or holograms, more correction may be necessary first.

That extra work should be discussed separately. Our 2-stage Paint Correction starts at R5,500 for a standard car and R7,500 for a larger car. The combined Correction + Ceramic package starts at R11,500 and includes a valet worth R2,750.

Bonded contamination

A car can feel rough even after washing because iron deposits, tar and other contamination remain attached to the paint. We use chemical decontamination and clay on the paint and wheels before coating. This is not optional housekeeping. The protective layer needs a properly cleaned surface.

What is included in our ceramic coating?

The confirmed package includes:

  • A safe hand wash
  • Careful cleaning around emblems, grilles and trims
  • Chemical decontamination to remove iron deposits and tar from paint and wheels
  • Further clay decontamination on paint and wheels
  • Protection applied by hand to the paint and wheels
  • 2 years of protection

Polishing is carried out if the paint needs it. Heavy correction is quoted separately by vehicle. That distinction matters because a car in good condition should not carry the same labour charge as one that needs a full 2-stage correction.

What does 2 years of protection mean?

It means the coating is intended to protect the properly prepared paint and wheels for 2 years when cared for correctly. It does not mean the car becomes impossible to scratch, never needs washing or can be cleaned carelessly.

Day-to-day dirt still lands on the car. Towels and wash tools still touch the surface. A coating gives the finish a durable protective layer and makes the normal wash routine simpler, but good technique remains important.

The honest way to think about it is this: coating protects the finish you have prepared. It does not replace preparation, and it does not cancel the need for maintenance.

Does a new car need ceramic coating?

A new car is a strong candidate because the owner can protect it before months of ordinary washing begin. But new does not automatically mean defect-free. The paint should still be inspected under useful light before coating.

We can arrange to coat a new car at the dealership the day before collection. That means you can drive away with the finish already protected instead of taking delivery and booking the car out again. The timing and dealership access need to be arranged in advance, and our new car ceramic coating page explains how it works.

If the inspection finds marks that need heavier work, correction is discussed and quoted separately. That is better than coating over a defect and discovering later that the coating has preserved something you wanted removed.

How should a ceramic-coated car be washed?

Wash it normally with a pH-neutral car shampoo. Dry it with clean microfibre cloths. Do not polish or wax the car after coating.

The advice is deliberately simple. A harsh or careless wash routine can create contact marks on any car. Use clean tools, avoid grinding dirt into the paint and dry the panels rather than leaving water to sit on the surface.

Polish contains abrasives designed to alter the surface. Wax adds another layer that the coated car does not need. Sticking to the confirmed aftercare keeps the routine clear and avoids working against the protection you paid for.

When is ceramic coating not worth it?

It may not be the right first purchase when the paint condition is the real problem. If the car is covered in heavy swirls, haze and scratches, coating alone will not deliver the visual reset you expect. Start with an inspection and price the correction honestly.

It may also be unnecessary if you do not want longer-term protection and only need the car cleaned or lightly polished. Our Enhancement Detail starts at R4,000 and includes a 1-stage polish plus sealant. The Valet and Interior Detail is R2,750 when the priority is a full inside-and-out clean without machine polishing.

Choose coating because you want to protect a suitable finish for 2 years, not because the word sounds premium.

Is the cheapest ceramic coating quote the best value?

Not necessarily. Ceramic coating prices across South Africa vary a lot, so compare the preparation, the condition assumptions, the areas coated and the stated protection period. Ask whether paint correction is included, optional or ignored. Ask what happens when the installer finds swirls under inspection lighting.

A cheaper number can represent a different scope. An expensive number can also be poor value if the quote is vague. The useful comparison is between like-for-like work on a car in similar condition.

We keep our pricing clear: from R6,000 for a standard car, about R8,000 for a larger car, 2 years of protection, and heavy correction quoted separately. The Pricing page places that package beside the other options.

How do I get an accurate ceramic coating quote?

Send us the car make and model, your suburb and clear daylight photos. Include the bonnet, roof, doors and the worst marks you can see. For a new car, include the dealership and collection date.

Photos help with the first view. The final price is confirmed after the car is seen because size and paint condition determine the work. That inspection protects both sides of the quote: you know what is included, and we can recommend correction only where the finish needs it.
